Our Community

Our Community

From the neighborhoods where Starbucks stores are located to the regions where coffee is grown — we believe in engaging with the community we are part of.

As good neighbors, whenever we can, we engage in local efforts to bring people together and create positive change.

Starbucks and Gerando Falcões. Together for the better

Starbucks and Gerando Falcões. Together for the better

Starbucks and the Gerando Falcões Network coming together to transform the lives of people living on the periphery, raising funds and creating career development opportunities.

From the beginning, we have believed in building a company that goes beyond serving a good cup of coffee to our customers, but that also maintains an ongoing commitment to its communities. Understanding that we can and should generate positive and lasting impacts where we are inserted, we foster an agenda of support and incentives for responsible social causes that promote good things for the planet and for society.

In November 2021, we announced through ZAMP, our licensed operator in Brazil, a partnership with the Gerando Falcões Network — a social development ecosystem that operates as a network to accelerate the impact power of favela leaders across the country, delivering education, economic development and citizenship services.

As part of this initiative, the menu at Starbucks stores across the country began to offer the mini Ginger and the mini Italian Palha with the aim of contributing to the Network's actions in several cities. The packaging was co-created with Leandro Augusto Araújo, designer at Gerando Falcões, and all the net profit from the sale of these two products is donated to the project.

In addition, we also donate to the NGO all the net profit from the sale of the 5 new Frappuccino® flavors that were created to celebrate the brand's 15th anniversary in Brazil, in October 2021, and made available for a limited time.

Promoting new perspectives for the future

In November 2021, ZAMP, our licensed operator in the country, announced its trainee program in partnership with the Gerando Falcões Network. As with the other brands in the group, we allocate part of our office and store vacancies in Brazil so that new professionals — young people and adults supported by the NGO — have access to professional opportunities, receive training, and can access new perspectives for the future.

These selected professionals participate in a program that includes participation in training and technical qualifications, in addition to mentorship and support from ZAMP's Human Resources teams, the Gerando Falcões team and our leadership team — all aligned with a career path. Through this project, we have the opportunity to generate transformation and promote economic and professional development, education and citizenship.

This is just the beginning of a story of major changes by Starbucks together with ZAMP and the Gerando Falcões Network. All together for the better!

Social Actions

Social Actions

We believe that by engaging our community, one person at a time, we help make the world a better place.

Since Starbucks first opened its doors, it has strived to create a company and a culture that treats everyone — partners (as we call our people) and customers — with respect and dignity. Some initiatives are known worldwide, such as the Global Month of Good, when all partners worldwide voluntarily support NGOs and institutions.

Since 2006, Starbucks Brasil has developed several community support initiatives and partnerships, with a long history of actions and programs. Examples of the brand's commitment to positively impact the communities it serves:

• Since 2013, it has partnered with Fundação Gol de Letra, hosting the traditional Caramel Day, when all the net profit from the sale of Caramel Macchiato beverages is directed to support the education of many young people.

• Since 2017, it has run the Pride campaign, which directs the net profit from the sale of one of our products to institutions that support the LGBTQIAP+ cause in the States where we operate.

• Over the past 3 years, the Global Month of Good in Brazil has engaged more than 1,600 people and donated more than 1 million pieces of clothing and food items.

• Donations during the COVID-19 pandemic: more than 500,000 food and supply items were donated to more than 100 institutions in 2020.

• Since 2020, it has run Project EU SOU, which supports trans partners in the process of legally updating their social names

• Mobilization of a Social Fund in partnership with Rappi, in which, for every delivery order placed with Starbucks, the company commits to financial donations to partner NGOs.

• And much more.

Starbucks ® Foundation

Starbucks ® Foundation

The Starbucks Foundation was created to support our commitment to the community.

We started our activities in 1997, funding literacy programs in the U.S. and Canada. Today, we support communities around the world in every way:

Nurturing young leaders

With innovative visions and willing hands, young people have a lot to contribute to their communities. The Starbucks™ Shared Planet™ Youth Action Grants help give young people the opportunity to make a difference, supporting their efforts to make the world a better place.

Supporting coffee, tea and cocoa farming communities

Starbucks supports social development projects that help the communities that grow our coffee, tea and cocoa. The projects include improving access to education and farming training, microfinance and microcredit services, improving biodiversity conservation and increasing levels of health, nutrition and sanitation.

Access to clean water

Ethos(R)™ Water started a social project with the goal of providing people in developing countries with access to clean water. For every bottle of Ethos(R)™ Water sold in the U.S., five cents go to the Ethos(R) Water Fund to help finance sustainable water programs around the world. Thanks to our valued customers, we have raised more than US$6 million to date.

Encouraging education in China

In 2005, as part of its ongoing commitment to social responsibility and in recognition of China's rich tradition of valuing education, Starbucks Coffee Company established the Starbucks China Education Project, a US$5 million commitment (about 40 million RMB) to support educational programs in China through Give2Asia.

We are not currently seeking national or local sponsorship opportunities, nor are we accepting requests for products or similar at this time. We continue to focus on helping communities through the Starbucks Foundation programs listed above and the efforts of Starbucks stores in their local communities.
